A Flat Plate Collector is a heat generating which used to convert the radiant solar energy from the sun into heat energy utilizing the well-known greenhouse effect. It handles, or carries, solar energy and uses that energy to heat water in the home for bathing, washing, and heating, and can also be used to heat outdoor swimming pools and hot tubs.
For most household and small commercial hot water purposes, the solar flat plate collector helps to be more costly due to their pure form, low cost, and most more accessible to installation compared to other kinds of hot water heating systems. Also, solar flat plate collectors are more capable of providing the required quantity of hot water at the required temperature — flat plate solar collector used in many ways.
A solar flat plate collector consists of a massive heat holding a plate, regularly, a large sheet of copper or aluminum as they are both excellent conductors of heat, which coated or chemically engraved black to absorb as much solar radiation as a potential for maximum efficiency.
This blackened heat absorbing surface has rare parallel copper pipes or tubes called risers over the plate which take the heat transfer fluid, typically water. These copper tubes are bonded, joined or brazed immediately to the absorber plate to secure maximum surface contact and heat transfer.
Sunlight heats the absorbing surface which rises in temperature. As the plate gets heated, this heat is transferred through the risers and absorbed by the vapor flowing inside the copper wires which is then used by the house.
The pipes and absorber plate inserted in an insulated metal or frame box with a sheet of glazing material, either glass or plastic on the front to shield the enclosed absorber plate and form an insulating air space.
This glazing element does not absorb the suns thermal energy to any significant extent, and therefore most of the incoming radiation is collected by the blackened absorber.
The air gap between the plate and glazing element catches this heat stopping it from escaping back into the atmosphere. As the absorber plate warms up, it gives heat to the fluid within the receiver, but it also loses heat to its surroundings. To reduce this loss of heat, the bottom and sides of a flat plate collector are coated with high-temperature rigid foam or aluminum foil insulation as shown.
The primary use of this solar flat plate collectors is in household buildings where the need for hot water has a significant influence on energy bills. This usually means a place with a large family or a situation in which the hot water demand is unnecessary due to frequent laundry washing.
Commercial applications involve laundromats, military laundry facilities, car washes, and eating establishments. The technology can also be applied for space heating if the building found off-grid or if use power is subject to frequent outages.
Solar water heating systems are most suitable to be cost-effective for types of heaters that used to heat water and they are more expensive to operate, or with services such as washing clothes or kitchens that need large quantities of hot water.
Unglazed liquid collectors are usually used to heat water for swimming pools. Because of these collectors necessary not withstand high temperatures, they can use little expensive materials such as plastic or rubber. They also do not need freeze-proofing because swimming pools are usually used only in warm weather or can be removed easily during cold weather.
While solar collectors are most cost-effective in sunny, temperate areas, they can be cost effective essentially anywhere in the country so should be recognized.
